Melanie Burian - Lead Mentor
Melanie received her B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Ithaca College in 2013. While at Ithaca, she also earned a minor in Spanish and studied abroad at the University of Alicante in Alicante, Spain. She completed her undergraduate clinical placement at the Sir Alexander Ewing Speech and Hearing Clinic of Ithaca College and in a Head Start program at an elementary school in Lansing, NY. She also volunteered her time to give ESL lessons to Honduran migrant farm workers through the IC Intercambios program. Melanie is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in Boston, MA.
Melanie began working at TDS as a peer mentor in April of 2009. Since then, she has had many amazing opportunities at TDS, such as planning and attending conferences, training mentors and helping to coordinate the summer Social Coaching programs. Mel says her favorite part of TDS is "seeing lots of wonderful people every week! The students I get to work with teach me something new every day."
Isabelle is a senior at Amherst Regional High School (ARHS) and has been working at TDS since 2009. At ARHS, Isabelle volunteers as a tutor at the Academic Achievement Center and plays viola in the Symphonic Orchestra. In her spare time, she loves to bake and watch telenovelas. Isabelle is passionate about her work at TDS. She loves working with kids of all ages, and her favorite thing about TDS is being surrounded by people who love to laugh.
Peter is one of the newest members of our TDS mentor team. As the president of Belchertown High School’s class of 2012, Peter is very active, volunteering as a math tutor and partnering in all kinds of community service projects. A very dedicated, friendly guy, Peter loves playing drums and hanging out with his friends. He likes to help people whenever he can, and he is a very patient, hard worker.
Hannah is a junior at Belchertown High School. At BHS, she is a member of the band, and has run for the cross country team. She loves to run, dance and snowboard or ski.
This is Hannah's first year working at TDS as a mentor, and she has been working hard! Her spunky yet gentle personality allows her to fit in well with many varieties of social groups. Hannah says she loves working at TDS because of how rewarding it is to help kids. Her favorite part is being in an environment that encourages teamwork and helping one other.
Elias attends Swift River Elementary and has been a mentor with TDS for four years (beginning when he was just 4 years old!). He is involved in both the Theater for Social Success and the Social Coaching Programs. He enjoys Tae Kwon Do, singing, dancing and playing outside with his brothers and cousins. Eli says that the best thing about being at TDS is getting to work with his family. He always has a funny story to share and a way of making others feel at ease.
